The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner

The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarrell

From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from the dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

Anthem For Doomed Youth

Anthem For Doomed Youth by Wilfred Owen

What passing bells for these who die as cattle?
Only the monstrous anger of the guns.
Only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle
Can patter out their hasty orisons.
No mockeries now for them; no prayers nor bells;
Nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,
The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells;
And bugles calling for them from sad shires.
What candles may be held to speed them all?
Not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes
Shall shine the holy glimmers of good-byes.
The pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;
Their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,
And each slow dusk a drawing-down of blinds.[4]

As they came up in class, I thought you might like to see this blog that posts interesting neologisms. Don't use a T.E.T offense to get out of this one (see blog to get joke).

Anagnorisis!

I made a mistake (unbelievable). It's not agnorisis, it's anagnorisis. That's much harder to say! I'm now experiencing anagnorisis:
Anagnorisis
Anagnorisis
