Three Strategies to Hook the Reader:
rhetorical question: the writer poses a question the he/she intends to answer in the particular piece of writing as to bring the reader to ask his/herself the same question
anecdote: the writer utilizes the narrative mode in order to drag the reader into his/her piece
humorous opening: the writer employs humor (irony, hyperbole, absurdity, etc.) in order to gain the reader's attention
